Chinese Basic Cardiovascular Research in Transition.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the major cause of morbidity and mortality in China presenting rapidly evolving public health and economic burdens. China recognizes the need to develop a modern and optimized medical care system that includes cutting edge translational biomedical research to target CVD as a fundamental ingredient. Rapidly growing financial support from government sources has fueled quantum increases in scientific output of cardiovascular basic research in China during the past decade. However, China still faces significant challenges to improve the efficiency, quality, and impact of such research, as well as to effectively address the prevention and treatment of CVD.
